This year Christmas dinner will cost you £36million, if you are quick

We all like to take our time over Christmas lunch. A couple of hours can easily fly by over turkey, pudding and drinks. Well, this year digestion may not be so easy, as during that 120 minutes you and all UK taxpayers will be £72million worse off.

This is the true level of national debt as shown by the New Party debt counter. Every time 10 seconds passes on the counter every man, woman, and child in the UK is a further £100,000 in debt. Let’s put this into a yuletide perspective for you.

  • A quick half an hour down the pub: £18,000,000 + the price of a pint or two
  • Watching the inevitable Christmas Bond movie: £54,000,000
  • A game of ‘Just a Minute’: £600,000
  • Getting yourself dressed up: £4,500,000 (men) £18,000,000+ (women)
  • A half hour nap after lunch: £18,000,000
  • Opening presents:£4,500,000 to £18,000,000

New Party leader Richard Vass said today: “In just 12 years the present government has virtually bankrupted the country.  Even without the banking crisis the figures were horrific.  When the crisis came, we were already too weak to ride it out.

“The counter shows the true level of debt including public sector pension liabilities and many of the liabilities under PFI contracts. It doesn’t make for a comfortable time around the table this Christmas, or for many Christmases to come,” he said.
