News release: Voters Unhappy in Haltemprice & Howden
The New Party's candidate in the Haltemprice & Howden by-election, David Pinder, today criticised his Tory opponent for taking the electorate for granted and the media for letting him of the hook.
As Mr. Pinder explained, "David Davis has the advantage of being the incumbent, but this is no excuse for his failure to address the concerns of his constituents. There is a tangible sense of irritation about the way this by-election has come about, even among Mr. Davis's own supporters. A number of them resent an expensive by-election which does not give them a chance to vote on the issues which most concern them."
Media failing to hold Davis to account
So far the media have failed to hold Davis to account for his failure to engage. Candidates who are perfectly capable of debating serious issues are being ignored by the press pack in favour of Elvis impersonators and conspiracy theorists. The New Party is on the street offering the people of Haltemprice & Howden realistic alternatives and, judging by our reception, we may well yet see a proper contest developing.
"One of the strangest things about this campaign is David Davis standing as a Conservative candidate when he plainly has major problems with the present leader and his policies," said Mr Pinder. "With the New Party you get what it says on the tin. We may not yet pose a threat to established parties but we do intend to give the voters a chance to censure politicians who take them for granted."
A challenge to Davis
The New Party is fighting a serious campaign and has more people on the streets than the rest of the challengers combined. David Pinder has challenged David Davis to a debate today at 4pm at the Shire Hall, 11 Market Place, Howden.
