Transport

Scotland is being strangled by our woefully inadequate transport infrastructure and many companies have either moved away or changed their minds about coming here in the first place.

"There can be no denying the fact that Scotland’s infrastructure is becoming increasingly geriatric and fragile, and that major new investment in our essential services is desperately needed."
Wylie Cunningham, Executive Secretary
The Institution of Civil Engineers, Scotland

The New Party will encourage the development of better integrated communities to reduce the need to travel. We will get rid off bottlenecks and we will provide new road capacity where necessary. We will also establish regional teams to keep traffic flowing by altering traffic light timings, stopping unnecessary coning, directing traffic and changing speed limits. We will restrict heavy transport from the overtaking lane of crowded dual carriageways at peak times but we will raise HGV speed limits on A-class roads to 50 mph. We will also make rebated fuel available for all essential transport providers.

However our neglected road and rail routes are also damaging Scotland’s tourist trade and we propose a number of improvements. The New Party will improve rural roads as well and provide more passing places on tourist routes. We will remove unsightly debris and we will clear away out of control vegetation in order that our unrivalled scenery can be fully appreciated by road and rail travellers alike.

The New party also has a number of innovative policies to make our roads safer.
